Publishing

Publishing aesthetically designed books was the most important task of the 27 Book Lovers. Debates on what to publish had been going on since early 1931. There were attempts to commission scholars to write works on book history. Chaim Nachman Shapira (1894–1943), a professor at Vytautas Magnus University, was asked to write a history of the Jewish book in Lithuania, and Georg Gerullis (1888–1945), a renowned Baltist hailing from Vilkyškiai, was approached regarding the history of the book in Lithuania Minor, but both refused. After that, the society decided to focus on classic literature. In total, 10 editions were published.  All publishing processes, from establishing the repertoire to ordering paper, were carried out by members themselves.
