About the Exhibition
September 30, 420 is the day of the death of St. Jerome, a Church Father, theologian, and the translator of the Holy Scripture into Latin. Of the many texts written by him, it is the translation of the Bible, entitled Vulgate and recognized as a canonical text of the Western Church, that is remembered best. Edited anew in the second half of the 20th century, it remains the official version of the Bible of the Roman Catholic Church.
2020 is the year of the 1600th anniversary of St. Jerome’ passing. To mark this occasion, the Wroblewski Library of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences mounted an exhibition “On St. Jerome and his followers”. Supplemented by additional materials, it served as the basis for this virtual project.
