Recognition

After perusing the catalogs of the world’s greatest libraries and digital databases, it may be clearly stated that Marija Gimbutas was and remains one of the most prominent archaeologists in the world.  Her diligence, purposefulness, aspiration to leadership, gift for synthesis, love for her homeland, and excellent academic qualifications made her one of the most prominent and original researchers in the archaeology of the Balts, who especially excelled in the synthesis of archaeological, linguistic and mythological data, and in putting forth novel hypotheses. Doubtless, her contribution is greatest in making old Baltic materials from our region part of the world’s archaeological knowledge.
